GEORGE TOWN – Four men and a woman were fined RM20,000 after they were found to be gathering and drinking at a hotel in Batu Feringghi yesterday.
The police detected their actions while conducting a standard operating procedures (SOP) compliance operation in conjunction with the Full Movement Control Order (MCO) at the area at 5.20 pm.
The Timur Laut District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong said, the five relatives are aged between 20 and 63 years-old.
Based on police investigation, one of the man came from Kuala Lumpur for work.
“Following that, the family members of the man gathered and drank at the hotel where the man was staying.
“A check on the family members found that they all stay at the Timur Laut district,” he said when contacted my MalaysiaGazette today.
According to Soffian, the five individuals have committed offence under Regulation 10(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021 and they are punished under Regulation 17(1) of the similar regulation.
“We have issued compound amounting to RM4,000 on each person for violating the SOP and gathered to socialise,” he said.
On the similar development, Soffian warned the public to obey the orders of MCO 3.0 as failure to comply with SOP can cause them to be fined, arrested or charged at the court. –MalaysiaGazette
