KUALA LUMPUR – The Perodua Myvi driver who drove against traffic at the Maju Expressway (MEX) on 4 September has been sentenced to three days in jail and fined RM8,000 at the Traffic Court, Jalan Duta today.
The Chief of Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, Assistant Commissioner Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said that the 24-year-old insurance agent pleaded guilty after the charges were read to him.
“The driver was charged this morning under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
“The driver pleaded guilty and he was sentenced to three days in jail and fined RM8,000 in lieu, six months in prison,” he said in a statement today.
According to Sarifudin, the driver also lost his eligibility to get license for a period of five years from the date of the conviction.
On 4 September, media reported that a man was driving a grey Perodua Myvi against traffic from the MEX Toll heading towards the city centre.
The Serdang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner A.A. Anbalagan said that the police received a report from the Inquiry Counter of the Serdang District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department at 1.16pm after seeing the video footage.
“Based on a check on the closed-circuit television at the Seri Kembangan MEX Toll Plaza, they found that the driver started driving against traffic from the Seri Kembangan Rest & Relaxation (R&R),” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
