KUALA LUMPUR – The retail price of Covid-19 saliva self-test kit would be sold at a cheaper price of less than RM10 by the end of this month, said Datuk Rosol Wahid.

The Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs  said that the consumers should purchase the kit approved by the Medical Device Authority (MDA).

According to him, the ministry had earlier set the retail price of Antigen Rapid Test Kit (RTK) at RM19.90 and many manufacturers of the product had promised to reduce the price of the self-test kits.

Many manufacturers said that they are willing to sell the devices below RM10 although the Ministry wanted to set the price at RM15 or RM13.

“If is it allowed for sales at the open market and approved by the MDA, they can sell them cheaper. I am confident that the industry players would fulfil their promise by the end of this month,” he said.

Rosol also said that the Covid-19 self-test kit would not only be sold at the pharmacies or medical halls, but it would also be sold at the supermarkets, chain shops and petrol stations soon.

“This would enable the consumers to purchase the self-test kit and to ensure a healthy competition among the businesses,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
