KUALA LUMPUR – The Sarawak DAP has announced 18 out of 26 State Assembly candidates for the 12th Sarawak State Election.
Meanwhile, the remaining candidates list will be kept confidential and announced later as a strategy of the party.
The Sarawak DAP Chairman, Chong Chieng Jen said, the candidates were selected out from the combination of new and old faces.
“Out of the 26 candidates from DAP, 11 are new faces. The unnamed eight candidates comprise of six seats in Kuching and two in Sibu.
“Eight seats. Six in Kuching, namely, Pending, Padungan, Kota Sentosa, Batu Kawah, Batu Kitang and Stakan. This is our strategy. We will announce later,” he said while delivering the appointment letters to the candidates at the DAP Headquarters in Kuching.
Among the finalised candidates were Granda Aing for Tasik Biru State Assembly, Chang Hong Siong (Mambong), Laerry (Kedup), Brolin Nicholsion Benedict Achung (Bukit Semuja), Leon Jimat Donald (Simangang), Philip Wong Pak Min (Repok) Yong Siew Wei (Meradong) and Irene Mary Chang Oi Ling (Bukit Assek).
Meanwhile, David Wong Kee Woan will be representing Pelawan, Solomon Kumbong (Pelagus), Joseph Jingut (Bukit Goram), Kenneth Lagong (Baleh), Tony Chiew (Tanjong Batu), John Bryan (Kemena), Tonny Ung (Samalaju), Peter Hee Leh Keng (Piasau) and Alan Ling Sie Kiong (Pujut).
Meanwhile DAP is still negotiating with Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) for the Dudong and Bawang Assan seats.
According to Chieng Jen, the party is willing to compromise and is still opening its door for final negotiation with PSB on the seats.
“We will make appropriate adjustments as the candidates can change in those areas and the seats can be exchanged, depending on our opponent,” he said.
Yesterday, the EC set 6 December as the candidate nomination day for the Sarawak polls.
The ruling coalition, GPS is scheduled to announce its full list of candidates for 82 state assembly seats on 4 December. -MalaysiaGazette
