KUALA LUMPUR – The Member of Parliament (MP) of Pontian, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said that the targeted petroleum subsidy introduced by the government is seemingly a ‘reversed subsidy’.

He said, the poor people should get more subsidies while the rich get less.

“However, the method used by the government is reversed, where, the rich people get more and the poor people get less.

“I would like to know from the Ministry of Finance, how many percent of the T20 benefit from this subsidy and how many from the M40 and B40 get from the RM28 billion subsidy,” he asked at the Parliament today.

Answering to his question, Deputy Finance Minister I, Mohd Shahar Abdullah said, to avoid leakage, the ministry has set up and enhanced the Multi-Agency Task Force (MATF) chaired by Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

“Through the MATF, we can see the holistic perspective from this subsidy and how it could be controlled to ensure there is no leakage along the borders,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
