KUALA LUMPUR – In the midst of the PKR leadership competing for party positions, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Permatang Pauh, Nurul Izzah Anwar said that her priority is not on the competition in the party.
“At the moment, my focus is on the Ayuh Malaysia programme. My position is the same. Most importantly, we should not win the battle but lose the war.
“Our priority is to win the general election, to gain the trust of the people again. Thus, my focus is on the Ayuh Malaysia programme. That is very important,” she said during the OWH!MG Exclusive Programme.
The Ayuh Malaysia programme is a catalyst for the people, a joint-effort with the PKR Deputy President candidate, Mohd Rafizi Ramli.
“It is important for the people to believe again that their votes are meaningful.
“That exceeds our capability. The party is a vessel and many things that need to be done through Ayuh Malaysia.
“When the time is right, I will decide if I want to contest or not, but at the moment, I should focus on this movement,” she said.
When asked about the PKR Election 2022, Nurul Izzah said that it is not easy to face the opinion of the people.
“Not everyone remembers the 1998. Out textbooks did not record what happened during the political and economic crisis in 1997. What they saw were merely what’s on the mainstream newspapers back then.
“To me, it’s important for us to study our candidates again.
“What kind of policies can we offer. For example, maybe people do not merely want the minimum wages. People want to know how we can support their dreams and the need for jobs. Which job sector do we need to generate to ensure that we have safety guarantee and sovereignty of food.
“After Raya, believe me. The prices of goods will increase again. This is a systematic problem,” she said.
According to her, here is how PKR can offer something effective to the people.
“Although it is not a populist decision, we need to consider the problems with policies which caused us to be trapped in the continuous increment of cost-of-living.
“So, we need to focus on these issues and we need to be more serious. We were the government earlier,” she added.
Nurul Izzah added, the PKR Election 2022 needs special focus. The election is merely temporary and they need to communicate wisely.
“I am also facing the challenges of communicating with the people. How can I capture their interests on these efforts.
“I see that in Selangor and Penang, the people have very little trust on the credibility.
“The people feel that all leaders are the same, they are all busy chasing after power. Who would be there to fight for their rights?” she questioned.
She explained, all candidates who contest should bring the narrative of the people as an offer and not hoping merely for positions.
