GEORGE TOWN – The narcotics detainee who escaped the Bayan Baru Police Station Central Lockup was rearrested with severe skin allergy.

According to the Penang Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the 33-year-old suspect was rearrested at a chalet in Batu Kurau, Taiping, Perak before he was sent to the hospital for further treatment following his severe allergy condition.

“However, after the treatment, the suspect was brought to police detention.

“The suspect has been remanded for four days until 2 May to assist into an investigation,” he said in a news conference at the Penang Police Contingent Headquarters today.

Elaborating further, Mohd Shuhaily said that the police will conduct investigation on how the suspect could escape and reach Batu Kurau.

“Following the rearrest of the suspect, we do not plan to pursue the remand order on six policemen who were detained earlier to assist into the same investigation.

“There were elements of negligence, so, we will look into the appropriate actions for the police involved,” he said, adding that the case will be investigated under Section 223 and 224 of the Penal Code.
