PUTRAJAYA – The government has made a drastic measure in ensuring sufficient food supplies in the country by abolishing the Approved Permit (AP) to import foodstuffs.
Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the decision was reached in the Cabinet meeting today.
The abolishment of AP takes effect immediately. With that, anyone can import food into the country, and it is no longer limited to certain quarters or AP holders.
“I believe that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) will be announcing the details. We agreed that no import AP is required for foodstuffs.
“It is open for anyone to import foodstuffs into the country. We used to have beef AP, meat AP and all sorts of APs. Beginning today, we no longer have AP,” Ismail Sabri told the journalists after attending the Prime Minister’s Department Aidilfitri Celebration 2022 today.
Earlier, there were urges for the government to either abolish the AP system or provide opportunities to more companies to import foodstuffs if they truly want to reduce its prices. -MalaysiaGazette
