KUALA LUMPUR – Noticing the low Covid-19 vaccination rate in the country, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak stepped in to support the government’s effort in optimising the heard immunity.
He said, the number of people who registered for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) is merely 13 million out of the 32 million population in the country.
Therefore, Najib said that the target for herd community targeted by the government is still far when 17 million of the country’s population have yet to register themselves for the vaccine.
“I would like to urge everyone to register themselves for the vaccine. In my area in Pekan, I also find that the number of registration needs and can be increased.
“Personally, I am grateful that I could take the vaccine two months ago. I know that there are various news being circulated in WhatsApp, as if, I had health problems after taking the vaccine. Some said that I was in ICU due to the side effects from the vaccine.
“That is not true. There is no microchip in my body and I also did not become wolverine or any other mutant,” he said in a Facebook Live today.
Najib also suggested to the government to mobilise the maximum effort in vaccine registration to optimise the vaccination rate.
“We are running out of time and we are in a very critical stage. I hope that all of you can come forward and help to realise our two main focuses,” he said in the video.
Meanwhile, Najib also campaigned that the vaccine is the main protection of the people in the country to fight Covid-19 infection.
“The vaccine is vital in protecting ourselves. Some questioned why do we need to be vaccinated when there is also a possibility that we may be infected by Covid-19. It is true, but, the probability of infection is very low for those who have been vaccinated.
“If we are infected, the vaccine in our body will protect us from life threatening symptoms and effects,” he said.
For the record, Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said that PICK has recorded the highest number of vaccination yesterday with 197,963 doses being administered in a day, nearing the daily vaccination target of 200,000 doses per day.
Dr. Adham said, from that amount, 142,890 individuals have received their first dose while 55,073 individuals have completed their second dose.
At the moment, 1,413,039 individuals have completed two doses of Covid-19 vaccine, meanwhile, 3,275,194 individuals have received their first dose. Thus, a total of 4,688,233 doses have been administered nationwide. –MalaysiaGazette
