KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy-Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon said that the Parliament will convene soon.

The decision was reached after an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah that took place for about an hour at the Istana Negara today.

According to Mohd Rashid, the session was also attended by The President of Dewan Negara Tan Sri Rais Yatim and the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun.

Besides the duo, Deputy Speaker of Dewan Negara Senator Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad and the Deputy Speaker of Dewan Rakyat Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said also attended the special meeting with the King.

“I am grateful towards His Majesty for his concerns. We appreciate his power during this emergency.

“Thus, InsyaAllah, what His Majesty decreed is within the scope… also through the advice of the Prime Minister for us to open the Parliament as suggested and ordered by YDPA.

“InsyaAllah, we will meet again for us to open the Parliament as usual or in hybrid,” he said when met at Gate 2 of Istana Negara today.

Meanwhile, the vehicles carrying Rais and Azizan left Gate 1 of Istana Negara at around 12.00 pm.

Media reported earlier that Rais and Azhar received the invitation from Istana Negara to have an audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah to discuss about the Parliament sitting.

The invitation came after Rais and Azhar suggested on 25 June for a hybrid Parliament sitting to be held by the end of August or early September. –MalaysiaGazette
