KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has been appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister with immediate effect.
According to a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office, Ismail Sabri will also remain as the Minister of Defence.
“This appointment would help Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) in managing the administration of the country in fulfilling the needs of the people while the country is facing health and economic crisis,” it said in a statement this evening.
Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein is appointment as the Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs.
As a Senior Minister, he would lead the Security Cluster that was previously led by Ismail Sabri in carrying out the National Recovery Plan.
The two appointments have been referred to the Yang DiPertuan Agong and will take effect immediately.
The appointment is hoped to increase the ability of the Perikatan Nasional government, especially in facing the Covid-19 pandemic and strengthen the unity among the parties. –MalaysiaGazette
