There are countless ways to invest in our own happiness and wellbeing.
1. Live healthily. Health underpins everything in life. Without fitness and health, we won’t be able to accomplish anything. Neither will we feel good nor happy. Build small, healthy habits into our everyday life.
2. Surround ourself with the right people. Being around the right people can influence on our success, wellbeing, and happiness. The right people will push us further and support us in achieving our goals. Negative, small-minded people will lead to negative feelings and bring us down.
3. Expand our network. Having a wide network of people from different fields with different expertise can make us more flexible in life. No matter what job we are doing and what our goals are: at the end of the day, in life, everything comes down to making decisions and taking action. Knowing the right people can help, in our professional and personal life.
4. Be productive. Build strong ethics and prolific work schedule. Once we set up our own habits and manage to work in a productive way, despite external factors, we will save a lot of time and energy.
5. Take action. Taking action is the only way to guarantee change and progress in our life. Be willing to do something if we want something to change. Try different things out, step out of our comfort zone, dare to take on challenges and adventures. The more we do and experience, the clearer our life goals are.
6. Save money. We never know when rainy days will come. Don’t live from pay check to pay check without saving money. Having an umbrella for rainy days allow us to be flexible, and not panic if unplanned costs occur. Set aside a certain part of our salary at the beginning of the month. Don’t wait until the end of the month and save what’s left over.
7. Invest money. Making money work for us is a way to secure our future and empower us more freedom in life. Do proper research and know the basics of investing, and understand our risk appetite. Learn to invest and make our money work for us.
8. Travel. Because money returns, time doesn’t. Traveling enriches our life immeasurably. Different experiences and new challenges in other countries are eye-opening and inspiring. A great trip is worth an investment. The learnings we gain from our travels are endless.
9. Set new goals. Regularly reflect on life and set ourself new, motivating goals. New goals come with new challenges to overcome, so we will continuously grow. Reflect on our goals often and cross out those which don’t make sense anymore, and add new ones. This way, we stay excited and inspired to keep going and developing ourselves.
10. Keep learning new skills. Adaptability and flexibility are two most crucial skills. Thus, the ability to learn new skills quickly and efficiently is key. Learning new skills motivates us and keeps our mind fresh. To be successful, we must be open to challenges and learn new things.
11. Find a mentor. A mentor can coach and help us in many different areas of our professional and personal life. A mentor can guide us, help us uncover risks and discover new opportunities. Exchanging ideas with an experienced person who has done similar things as we would like to accomplish, is the best way to learn and grow. Everybody whom we look up to can be our mentor. We just have to be able to trust and discuss freely with him or her.
12. Reading. Reading is imperative for personal growth. The benefits are endless, ranging from mental stimulation and stress reduction to gaining knowledge. A reading routine enriches our life. If we feel like we don’t have time to read, start by reading one page a day. Once we sit down to read, we want to keep going and read more.
13. Forgive. Forgiving gets rid of anger and hatred from our heart. It does not erase the past, but looks upon it with compassion. At the end of the day, forgiveness is really not for the other person’s benefit at all — it’s for our own.
14. Be in gratitude. Gratitude is an emotion we feel when we notice something good has come into our lives and we appreciate it. Some people feel grateful more often than others. For example, some feel grateful every time the sun is shining, while others barely notice. After eating, pause and think, ‘What a wonderful meal.’ Enjoy the simple things in life. The more grateful we are, the more we will see the world in a more positive way.
15. Simplicity above all. One of the things that never ceases to amaze me, is the length some people go to overcomplicate even the simplest tasks. The simpler we can make things, the more we improve efficiency and effectiveness, and generate better results.
Save these thoughts. It may just save our day, one day if not today.
