KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor State Government will advise the National Security Council (MKN) on the reopening of school session in September.

The Menteri Besar of Selangor Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that he does not want premature decision on the matter and cause Covid-19 infection wave to happen again, just like what happened when the government reopened domestic tourism end of last year.

The state government would also hold a discussion before bringing the proposal to MKN.

“The Selangor State Government will hold a discussion next week on the idea of reopening school session in September if it is appropriate. We will advise the MKN to ensure no premature decision is made.

“Just like how we allowed interstate travel last year for domestic tourism and it caused new infection wave in January, February, March until now,” he said in a virtual news conference today.

The decision of the Education Ministry (MOE) in reopening physical school session in stages beginning September has raised dissatisfaction of many people on the concerns of Covid-19 infection risk.

Yesterday, the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) requested for the proposal to be postponed as the daily Covid-19 infection rate has exceeded 20,000 cases daily.

Meanwhile, an online campaign was created to demand MOE to postpone the physical school session.

At the moment, 41,000 individuals have signed the petition. –MalaysiaGazette
