KUALA LUMPUR – The Syariah High Court has allowed the former Minister of Federal Territories, Khalid Abd. Samad to enter into a polygamous marriage after he agreed to fulfil the rights of his wife.

The decision was delivered yesterday by Judge Abdul Halim Abdullah, who allowed the counterclaim of Khalid’s wife, Dr. Zaiton Abu Bakar to resolve the issue amicably.

Khalid, who is also the Member of Parliament of Shah Alam has agreed to hand over a bungalow he presently resides with his first wife as well as a penthouse in Shah Alam to Dr Zaiton.

According to Nurfarhana Abd Manaf, the lawyer from Messr Asri Musa & Co who represented Zaiton, her client gave an order for amicable discussion with Khalid to ensure that her rights as the first wife are fulfilled.

“We have made an agreement with Khalid before the judge, including recording the alimony for his wife as the defendant before the judge. The plaintiff agreed to give her a bungalow that they are residing now, along with a penthouse. Both the properties are located in Shah Alam and they will be transferred to Dr Zaiton.

“Also, a Proton X70 car that is currently in use, along with additional credit card allowance to the defendant. The deal also recorded the alimony that will be given to his wife,” she said according to a media report this morning.

The properties will be transferred right after the hire purchase loans are settled.

On 8 December last year, Dr Zaiton filed the counterclaim on Khalid’s application for polygamy at the Syariah High Court before Registrar, Norbyetty Mohd Nasir.

Khalid however, refused to comment on the issue when contacted by the media. -MalaysiaGazette
