KUALA LUMPUR – The Supreme Council (MKT) of UMNO unanimously nominated Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as its candidate for Prime Minister during a meeting today.

The meeting that was chaired by the President of UMNO, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wanted the Ninth Prime Minister of Malaysia to continue leading the country if Barisan Nasional (BN) wins the 15th General Election (GE15).

“The Supreme Council of UMNO unanimously suggests that Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob becomes the candidate of Prime Minister to face the 15th General Election,” said the Secretary-General of UMNO, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan in a statement.

Meanwhile, the MKT meeting also touched about the position of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the government led by Ismail Sabri and the opposition.

According to Ahmad, the agreement will end on 31 July and it will not be extended.

Besides that UMNO and BN would also support the Anti-Party Hopping Bill scheduled to be tabled by the government next July.

“UMNO thinks that the Anti-Party Hopping Act must be fulfilled immediately as a manifestation to ensure that the rights of the voters are always protected and respected,” he said.

UMNO is also scheduled to hold its special UMNO General Assembly (PAU) on 14 May to amend the party’s constitution on the duration of party election.

In PAU 2021, the assembly passed the motion for the party election to be postponed for six months after the 15th General Election (GE15). -MalaysiaGazette
