SUNGAI PETANI – The wish of a soldier to visit his wife and newborn baby ended in a tragedy after he died in a road accident at Kilometre 46 Jalan Alor Setar-Butterworth, last night.

The 8.15 pm accident caused Muhammad Izzat Jefree, 27, to die at the scene due to serious injury in his head.

The Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zaidy Che Hassan said that police investigation found that the victim was riding a Yamaha R25 motorcycle from Bedong to Gurun and he rammed into the left side of a Honda Accord which was turning into Taman Selesa, Bedong.

“The victim was riding too close to that vehicle and he could not avoid the collision in time.

“Due to the crash, the victim was thrown off his bike before landing on the road. He was verified to have died on the scene of the incident by medical officer,” he said in a media statement today.

The body of the victim was sent to the Sultan Abdul Hamid Hospital Forensics Unit for autopsy.

Zaid said, the case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

MalaysiaGazette was told that the victim worked for the driver unit at the Jalan Semarak Camp in Kuala Lumpur. His wife just delivered their first son on the first of Syawal.

The location of the accident was merely eight kilometres away from his wife’s house.

The body of the victim will be brought to his hometown in Taiping, Perak to be laid to rest. -MalaysiaGazette
