KUALA LUMPUR – Offering used motorcycle at unbelievable price, far below the market value is the modus operandi of the online motorcycle sales scam.

Many people fell victims to the syndicate which cloned the name of a renowned motorcycle company in their operation to trick their victims.

Afif (not his real name), 23 expressed his disappointment to MalaysiaGazette after he became a victim of the scam.

Sharing his experience, he saw an advertisement at Motor Murah and Motor Lelong on Facebook about a used Yamaha 135LC using the name of a motorcycle shop in Ampang, Selangor in April.

“Actually, I just started working and I have the budget of about RM5,000 to buy a motorcycle. I have been saving for it for a long time. Then, I tried to look for a motorcycle on Facebook (Motor Murah dan Motor Lelong) and saw the advertisement of the LC motorcycle at RM3,000.

“Without much thoughts as I wanted to save, I asked the seller if the bike was truly selling at RM3,000. He said, yes. I was thinking, perhaps there could be some damage on the chain or brake, that’s why it was cheap, I could repair it myself.

“I agreed and made the RM3,000 payment online. At that time, it did not cross my mind why the motorcycle was very cheap. I also did not check the current market price of LC bike,” he said.

Two days later, Afif asked about the status of the motorcycle. The scammer did not reply and he started getting concerned as he has made the payment.

He said, the Facebook account (Motor Murah dan Motor Lelong) offers great prices and the consumer are spoilt for choice.

“I WhatsApp that person and asked him the whereabouts of the motorcycle and when we could meet. There was only one tick and no reply. I started getting worried. RM3,000 all gone. I waited and waited and I told myself this couldn’t be it.

“I went to the Facebook page of Ebidmotor.com and I saw the status and pictures of reports of people getting scammed. I became very weak when I found out about it. I messaged them and told them that I bought a motorcycle here.

“They told me that they don’t sell the LC at RM3,000. When I scrolled on the status at FB Ebidmotor.com, there were many comments about people getting scammed using the same motorcycle shop name.

“I started to be afraid, then, the https://www.ebidmotor.com/ shop advised and asked me to meet them to lodge police report. Now, I just need to wait for the authorities and see their next action,” he said.

After checking the market price of LC, Afif said that most people are offering the bike at RM5,000 to RM6,000.

He regretted for rushing into action and was easily conned by the cheap motorcycle price offer. -MalaysiaGazette
