KUALA LUMPUR – The government will not hesitate to reimpose the ceiling price for chicken if the traders rake excessive profit from the commodity.
Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Rosol Wahid said that the demand for chicken will also increase in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha and the government will no longer provide subsidy for chicken.
“For the Raya Haji, if it gets uncontrollable, then, the government will not hesitate to reimpose the ceiling price,” he said during a news conference today.
Thus, he said, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) will monitor the retail price of chicken consistently from 1 July onwards.
“We will monitor how they price the item as they advocated and promised that it will not be excessive,” he said.
He also reminded all traders to be responsible and not increase price excessively or hide food supplies including chicken, eggs and cooking oil.
“The price will float, so, we advise them to be responsible. Hiding is forbidden by all religion. We are confident that they won’t hide chicken because it will turn rotten.
“However, we will not take it easy and we will always conduct inspections. It is easier for us to take action when there is a report,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
