KUALA LUMPUR – Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) now benefits 12.6 million individuals or 60 percent of the adults in the country.

Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said, the BKM increased to RM8 billion this year after the Phase 2 BKM received additional cash of RM630 million.

Phase 2 BKM with the allocation of RM1.74 billion will benefit 4 million households, 1.2 senior citizens (single) and 3.4 million unmarried individuals.

The recipients will be receiving their payment in stages beginning today and they may check the status of the payment via https://bkm.hasil.gov.my.

Currently, 8.6 million BKM recipients have been approved for the cash aid and each household will receive up to RM2,600 in 2022.

According to him, BKM is the highest direct cash aid in the national history compared to Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) and Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH).

In comparison, the maximum BKM payout is RM2,600 compared to BR1M (RM1,200) and BSH (RM1,480). It is an increment of 120% since the direct cash assistance was introduced.

Besides that, there are 8.6 million BKM recipients compared to 4.5 million BSH recipients. This increment was contributed by the leniency of BKM eligibility, where the BSH was eligible to people with monthly salary of RM4,000 while this range has been increased to below RM5,000 for BKM.

This means that more Keluarga Malaysia are eligible to receive the cash aid, including some of the M40 and the aid is not merely for the B40 only. -MalaysiaGazette
