Dan Driscoll

WASHINGTON – US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has submitted his resignation to US President Donald Trump following months of tension with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, reported Xinhua quoting The Wall Street Journal Monday.

Driscoll, who disagrees with the defence secretary over the direction of the service and the ouster of numerous senior army officers, is expected to leave the Pentagon “in coming days,” the report said.

Since taking office, Hegseth has overseen a purge of high-ranking military leaders and civilian officials at the department.

In April, Hegseth asked Army Chief of Staff General Randy George — the US Army’s most senior general — to step down and take immediate retirement, with no explanation. Trump has not nominated a replacement.

General Christopher LaNeve, Hegseth’s former senior military aide, has served as acting chief of the Army since Hegseth fired his predecessor.
