KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS) has detained 1,160 kilogrammes of fresh lamb from Australia as there is no halal logo on its packaging.

The lamb worth RM56,614,70 were confiscated at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) MAQIS Cargo inspection area on Wednesday, 11.00 am.

The Acting Selangor MAQIS Director, Zamri Hashim said, the offence was detected during a physical inspection.

“Besides that, the import of the meat also did not comply with the valid import permit terms issued by MAQIS.

“Importing and failure to comply with the permit is an offence under Section 15(10 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728) which could be fined not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisoned for six months or both upon conviction,” he said in a statement today.

Daging kambing yang bernilai Rm56,614,70 itu berjaya ditahan di kawasan pemeriksaan MAQIS Kargo Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) pada rabu lalu jam 11 pagi.

According to Zamri, MAQIS is always careful and efficient in carrying out inspections on all goods to avoid the entry of goods, which could be imported along with diseases and pests that could affect the country, he said. –MalaysiaGazette
