KUALA LUMPUR – Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak expressed his gratitude and relief with the verdict delivered by the High Court today in dismissing the government’s application to forfeit cash amounting to RM114 million seized from Pavilion Residences in 2018.

He said, the verdict today has also cleared his name and reputation as an individual and leader.

According to Najib, he has been slapped with various accusations and it is finally proven that they are merely slanders after the court found that the money confiscated from the Pavilion Residences were not misappropriated from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

“I am grateful. Alhamdullilah. The court rejected the application by the prosecutors to forfeit the cash seized from Pavilion Residences in 2018. According to the court, there was no proof that the cash was from 1MDB.

“This is a huge success for me to clear my name and various accusations have been thrown against me all these while. Tarnishing my reputation as a leader and individual as if I was a robber, criminal and such.

“The court has dismissed those slanders. All those accusations had ill intentions, harsh words were thrown against me and finally, it is proven today that all those were not true,” he told the journalists at the Courts Complex today.

Earlier, High Court Judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin dismissed the application of the government to dismiss RM114 million seized by the police after the fall of Barisan Nasional (BN) led by Najib when Pakatan Harapan (PH) won the General Election in 2018.

According to Muhammad Jamil, the Attorney-General’s Chambe (AGC) has failed to prove that the RM114 million originated and had links to the 1MDB scandal. The prosecution also did not manage to establish that the money seized were gotten from activities linked to the criminal breach of trust (CBT).

He said, no evidence was presented to the court which could prove the relation of the funds misappropriated from 1MDB and the cash seized from Pavilion Residences.

“With this, I dismiss the application to forfeit the RM114 million seized in 2018,” he said.

Earlier, the prosecutor filed for an application to confiscate various items including 11,991 units of jewellery, 401 watches, 16 accessory watches, 234 pairs of glasses, 306 handbags and cash in various denomination amounting to RM114,164,393.44.

The money and luxury items were seized by the authority for alleged link to the 1MDB scandal.

The funds were among the cash, accessories and other assets amounting to RM680 million seized during the raid in 2018 from a condominium unit at Pavilion Residences, Kuala Lumpur, owned by Obyu Holdings Sdn Bhd. -MalaysiaGazette
