KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Health (MOH) expressed its concerns on the recent increment of stage 4 and 5 Covid-19 cases.
Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said that 15 percent of the Covid-19 patients recorded during this time is at that stage, compared to only five percent before this.
He said, some of the cases did not show any symptoms initially and they were allowed to do self-quarantine at home but they suddenly developed into stage 4 or 5.
“Patients in stage 4 have lungs inflammation and require oxygen support, meanwhile, those in stage 5 need to be ventilated.
“Those under home quarantine who do not show any symptoms initially but suddenly developed into stage 4 and 5 need to go to the hospital immediately,” he said in a virtual news conference.
For the record, stage 5 patients are in a critical infection stage where most of their internal organs have been affected due to the Covid-19 infection.
Elaborating further, Adham said that the third Covid-19 wave is attacking the younger generation and majority of them are aged between 20 and 40 years-old.
“Compared to the wave before this that attacked the senior citizens, there is an increment of infection trend on the younger people below the age of 40,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Adham revealed that the ministry had detected 870 healthcare workers who contracted Covid-19 after getting their vaccine through the first phase of National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) from February until April.
According to him, 1,369 healthcare workers have been infected by the disease since last year.
“219 healthcare workers have been infected by Covid-19 after their first dose of the vaccine or 16 percent from the total healthcare workers infected by the disease,” he added.
He added, 651 healthcare workers were infected after receiving their second dose of vaccine while 499 were infected before they got their vaccine. –MalaysiaGazette
