KUALA LUMPUR – Minister of Federal Territories, Tan Sri Annuar Musa alleged that several UMNO Supreme Council members (MKT) told him that the media statement read by the President of UMNO, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi early this morning did not portray the actual situation of the meeting that took place last night.

He said, the matter was revealed in the phone call with several UMNO Supreme Council members after the end of their five-hour-meeting at Menara Dato’ Onn last night.

“Further checks found that the media statement he read out was prepared earlier, before the MKT had their meeting. If that is true, then, obviously, the MKT has been played again and this is very serious,” the former Secretary-General of UMNO alleged.

Yesterday, Ahmad Zahid, in a live Facebook broadcast announced the UMNO MKT’s decision to withdraw the party’s support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and demanded the PM to resign.

Ahmad Zahid said, the support given by the party since 11 March last year has been withdrawn after the government failed to handle Covid-19 issues, economy, support the people and belittling the monarchy institution in calling for a Parliament sitting.

Meanwhile, Annuar said that many UMNO Division Chiefs (KUB) nationwide are confused with Ahmad Zahid’s statement.

“Some KUB who are also the MKT members verified that the President’s statement did not portray the actual content and conclusion of the MKT meeting. Why is this happening again and again? They discuss one thing and concluded another thing,” he questioned.

Annuar also said that 25 MKT members had shared their opinion on the approach taken by Ahmad Zahid to exit Perikatan Nasional (PN).

He said, all 25 MKT members had voiced out their opinion although they were not accepted.

“It is obvious that there were many different opinion. There was no obvious consensus. No votes were made. The discussion did not linger around issues if UMNO should quit PN as highlighted earlier.

“In other words, the President of UMNO needs to explain about the actual position. Issue the actual statement. Sooner or later, the actual position will stand out. This is not good for our party,” he added.

MalaysiaGazette reported that the UMNO Supreme Council last night was tensed and several MKT members questioned the rational for the party to leave PN. –MalaysiaGazette
