In a letter to all Members of Parliament (MPs), the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun said that the letter must be submitted to Istana Negara latest by tomorrow, 18 August 2021 before 4.00 pm for the attention of Colonel Datuk Nazim Mohd Alim, Senior Private Secretary to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The declaration letter can be faxed, emailed or Whatsapp in pdf format.

There is also no specific format to the letter, however, it must contain the following details:

  2. Sufficient identification of one Member of Dewan Rakyat who is given the trust by the MP
  3. Clearly state confidence without any condition
  4. Signature of the MP
  5. Signature and official stamp of witness, either a lawyer, commissioner of oath, public notary or relevant position
  6. Date of the declaration letter

According to Azhar, the MPs are not allowed to surrender the letters by hand as Istana Negara is still under the Phase 1 area and to avoid the spread of Covid-19.

He also said that late declaration letters or those that do not fulfil the terms condition stated will not be taken into consideration.

He said, the declaration letters would enable the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to appoint a Prime Minister among the Members from Dewan Rakyat according to his discretion under Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday.

Azhar also reminded all MPs to keep the declaration letter confidential until the Yang di-Pertuan Agong makes a decision on the matter. –MalaysiaGazette
