JOHOR BAHRU – Barisan Nasional (BN) will study the possibility of political cooperation with PAS.

However, as of today, majority of the grassroots are united and want BN to move solo in the Johor state election.

“Nevertheless, we, at the highest leadership will study the grassroots’ stand thoroughly so that every decision that we make will benefit BN,” said the Deputy Chairman of BN, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan during a news conference after a meeting at the UMNO Building in Johor today.

The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of BN, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Hasni Mohammad.

Yesterday, the Deputy President of PAS, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that his party was not satisfied the four seats offered by UMNO.

The Kubang Kerian Member of Parliament (MP) said that PAS wished to regain all seats that UMNO failed to win during the 14th General Election (GE14).

Commenting on the opinion that it would be tough for BN to get two thirds by moving solo, Mohamad said that it would depend on the strength of the party’s engine.

“Cooperation between BN component parties is important. We cannot move on our own as UMNO goes with UMNO, MCA with MCA and MIC with MIC.

“We need to move as a big party because Johor and other states have a different composition of races in each zone. I am confident that if we do it well, we can win,” he said.

He also denied that the meeting this morning discussed about the candidates for the state election.

On the contrary, Mohamad said that the meeting was held to heighten the spirits of component parties and to mobilise the BN engine in facing the state election.

“Words of encouragement by the Chairman of BN and Hasni were important in ensuring that the BN taskforce is focused. Everyone needs to know what they need to do so that there is no confusion,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
