KUALA LUMPUR – The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have started an investigation on the Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang, Dr. P. Ramasamy over a Facebook post on religion conversion.

The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Director (CID), Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said that the police received a report against the DAP leader.

“PDRM verified that we have received a police report and we are investigating on Dr Ramasamy’s Facebook post entitled Unilateral Religion Conversion in Perlis?

“The post dated 13 February 2022 was said to be provocative and had sparked dissatisfaction of various quarters as it implicated the religious authority in Perlis with terms such as unilateral religion conversion to Islam, abduction, manipulation, force and threat on the custodianship issue of Loh Siew Hong’s children,” he said in a statement today.

According to Abd Jalil, investigation on the Perai State Assemblyman is ongoing. He is investigated under Section 505 (c) of the Penal Code for making statement with intent to incite any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community of persons, Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentionally insults, intending or knowing it to be likely that such provocation will cause him to break the public peace and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network services.

“As of 23 February 2022, six police reports were lodged over the same issue and investigation is ongoing,” he said.

Meanwhile, PDRM also advise the public not to speculate as it could affect the investigation. He also advised the public to be more sensitive and concerned about racial and religious sensitivity.

Stern action without compromise would be taken against any individual who intentionally threatened public order and safety. -MalaysiaGazette
