KUALA LUMPUR – The lecturer from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) who ignited the rage of netizens following her slur on B40 group has been temporary suspended.

The UiTM Communications Department said, the Board of Directors of the University made the decision in a meeting yesterday.

It said, the lecturer, Professor Dr. Roshana Takim has been put on leave from today onwards until the university completes its investigation.

“The decision was made to ensure effective and systematic investigation,” it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, UiTM also issued a warning to take stern action on anyone who leaks out confidential information which would affect the image and good name of the institution and also threaten the safety of the people in the university.

According to that statement, the university will lodge reports to the authorities if they found anyone sharing confusing information.

“UiTM always care for its academicians and students. In this context, UiTM will enhance the roles of its lecturers and improve on the policies and ethics of teaching,” it said.

Dr. Roshana was under fire after a video of her berating a student who did not have computer went viral in the social media.

She was heard saying that she did not like to sit with the B40 group because they place priorities on other matters and not studies.

Meanwhile, in the social media, the netizens started to sympathise the lecturer after reading the leaked chronology report from UiTM.

In the report, the netizens found contradicting facts as alleged by the student, causing them to feel sorry for Dr Roshana.

In the comment section of the Universiti Teknologi Mara – Media Rasmi Facebook, some netizens shared their views of the lecturer.

“May Allah ease the Professor’s journey in the world and thereafter. May that student and other students appreciate the advice despite it was hard to swallow.

“The professor’s message for clear. It is not easy to become successful. There will be sacrifices. The roads would be tough but we cannot make poverty the excuse to stay at the bottom,” Wan Suryani commented.

However, as of today, UiTM did not confirm or deny the authenticity of the chronology report. -MalaysiaGazette
