KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Ismee Ismail told the court that Low Taek Jho or Jho Low attended the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) senior management meeting although he did not hold any position in the company.
The 13th witness of the 1MDB fund misappropriation proceeding involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib said that Jho Low was present during the Special Board of Directors (BOD) Meeting on 26 September 2009.
However, he could not identify who requested the fugitive businessman to attend the meeting.
Ismee, who was also the BOD said that Jho Low was probably invited by the then Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 1MDB, Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi and former Executive Director, Casey Tang Keng Chee.
Nevertheless, nobody questioned Jho Low’s presence in that confidential meeting which was only attended by the top leadership of 1MDB.
According to Ismee, Jho Low did not speak during the meeting, which also discussed about the joint-venture with PetroSaudi International Ltd (PSI). Jho Low also left the meeting earlier before it ended. Besides that, Jho Low’s signature was not in the attendance list.
“But I don’t know if there was anyone entrusted to erase his name (Jho Low),” he said.
Defence counsel representing Najib, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah focused on the cross-examination of Ismee, who is also the former non-Executive Director of 1MDB on the allegations of former 1MDB Chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh over the joint-venture with PSI.
Earlir, Mohd Bakke testified that Najib asked the BOD to only focus on the joint-venture between 1MDB and PSI without spending too much time looking at the previous company transactions.
The proceeding would resume tomorrow morning before High Court Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah.
Najib, who is also the Member of Parliament of Pekan is facing four counts of charges of abusing his position to get RM2.3 billion in bribery from 1MDB funds and 21 counts of money-laundering charges involving the similar amount of funds. -MalaysiaGazette
