PUTRAJAYA – The Covid-19 infection in the country is under control despite reports on the increment number of cases.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd. Yassin who chaired the fifth National Recovery Council (MPN) meeting today said that the Minister of Health, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar who attended the meeting today did not seem bothered by the current Covid-19 situation.

“From the report by the minister (Khairy), he said that the situation is not alarming. Our public hospitals are not facing serious pressure. The situation seems normal. So, I think, we are in a good condition.

“There is a sign of increment from time to time but according to the report just now, close to 90.9 percent of the cases are in category one and two.

“That is very mild. Thus, I don’t see the concerns on the minister’s face as how I saw it two years ago. It means that the situation is very much better,” he said in a news conference after chairing the MPN meeting today.

Meanwhile, according to the Chairman of MPN, the economic performance of the country showed obvious recovery during the first quarter of 2022, proving that the government has taken the correct pandemic and post-pandemic measures.

Based on the presentation by the Ministry of Health (MOH), Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Tourism Malaysia, the MPN gave three recommendations to the government.

Among the recommendations include, to revise the existing investment incentives and to improve the investment ecosystem in the country. It encompasses of considering several appropriate relaxations to optimize the impact and increase the competitiveness of the country in supporting the efforts of national recovery.

“The council also recommended for the government to consider granting exemption to the bumiputera equity ownership to procure land exceeding RM20 million for foreign investments in the service sector for a period of to years, throughout the economic recovery process.

“MIDA reported that RM58 billion of foreign investment could not be realised due to the restriction of the investment in fulfilling this condition.

“This condition can be reapplied after the economy fully recovers post-pandemic. Such measures were taken by the Government when the country was facing the economic crisis,” he said.

MPN also recommended for the government to draft initiatives and aids to increase the capacity of tourism industry players who were badly affected for the past two years to fully benefit from the reopening of national borders.

The Council also suggested that the people needs to continue to play their parts and responsibility in conducting self-risk assessment before attending any event or activities.
