MELAKA – The former State Assemblyman of Pengkalan Batu, Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee verified that he will be contesting as an independent representative for the Melaka State Election on 20 November.

He delivered the news in a news conference at the N15 Pengkalan Batu State Assembly Operation Room at Taman Lagenda, Peringgit today.

“I, the former State Assemblyman of Pengkalan Batu, verify that I will be contesting as on an independent ticket for the same seat tomorrow. I already have a nominee and a supporter and prepared the money for deposit.

“The logo of the party will be determined during the candidate nomination day tomorrow. I am confident that I have an 80percent chance to win in at least four corners fight against the candidate from DAP, Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN),” he said during the same news conference.

Elaborating further, the former Chairman of Agriculture, Farming, Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Committee said that he is confident about winning the election based on the good response from the residents of the area throughout his three years of serving the people.

“I can say that I am a Yang Berkhidmat (YB) who work for the people.

“I am not highly educated, I am not an Ir, but I have a JR, Jiwa Rakyat. When I go to the field, the some makciks cried because none of the people’s representative had gone to meet them before me,” he said.

When asked about his opponents, the former Deputy Chairman of Melaka DAP said that Muhamad Danish Zainudin, 25, from DAP is plunged into the job and he does not know him.

“Danish is not a local. To me, he is pushed into the job. I don’t know him.

“For Datuk Kalsum Nordin (UMNO’s candidate), I regard her as my good friend, a resident of Peringgit, but I work faster than her,” said Norhizam, 55, who won the Pengkalan Batu seat on the Pakatan Harapan (PH)’s ticket during the 14th General Election (GE14).

However, on 2 March 2020, Norhizam stated his support for the new government under Perikatan Nasional (PN) and he was sacked by DAP.

For the coming Melaka election on 20 November, DAP placed a new candidate for the Pengkalan Batu State Assembly seat, Danish. Meanwhile, PN places its bet on Mohd Azrudin Md Idris while Kalsom would be representing UMNO.

The Melaka State Election has to be held following the dissolution of the Melaka state assembly on 4 October after four assemblymen withdrew their support for Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

BN will be contesting in all 28 state assembly seats with UMNO (20), MCA (7) and MIC (1).

PN will also be contesting in all 28 seats with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (15), PAS (8) and Gerakan (5). – MalaysiaGazette
