KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor and Kuala Lumpur are among the states that have recorded the highest number of unnatural sex cases involving victims below the age of 18.

Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff said, according to the statistics from the police, 287 cases were recorded between 2019 until November 2021, with 94 cases in Selangor and 39 cases in Kuala Lumpur.

Within the same period, Johor recorded 37 cases, Sabah (18) Sarawak (17), Pahang and Perak recorded 16 cases each, Kedah (13), Penang (12), Terengganu (9), Negeri Sembilan and Melaka recorded eight cases each, Kelantan (6) and Perlis (4).

“208 cases involving minors under the age of 16, meanwhile 82 cases involved the age of 16 to 18. 114 males and 176 females,” she said at the Parliament this morning.

According to Siti Zailah, her ministry views this issue seriously. Rape and incest are among serious sexual crime and they require various initiatives from numerous parties to jointly eradicate the issue.

“Thus, I hope to get the cooperation from various parties on top of the several long-term strategic plans that have been developed to overcome this issue.

“Among them are the Reproductive and Social Health Education Action Plan (Pekerti) which targets on increasing the awareness of everyone, including the women, family and children,” she said. -MalaysiaGazette
