KUALA LUMPUR – Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, through her lawyers denied that she has ever received and owned the alleged US$23 million pink diamond necklace produced by jeweller, Lorraine Schwartz.

According to a statement by her defence counsel, Rosmah and her husband, Datuk Seri Najib Razak only knew that the Prince of United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Mansour Zayed, wanted to give a pink diamond necklace to Rosmah.

“Our client and/or her husband did not request, apply for and/or try to purchase the pink diamond necklace.

“The value of the necklace was never known to our client and or her husband,” Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent, Rajivan Nambiar and Reza Rahim said in a statement today.

Yesterday, the juries in the Goldman Sachs trial in New York, was shown a receipt without other evidence such as picture of the necklace.

Schwartz, an American bespoke high jewellery designer, has designed jewelleries for famous celebrities including Beyoncé, Blake Lively and Kim Kardashian. She was not called to stand as witness, on the contrary, only gave a statement as an official court record by the prosecutors.

During the business transaction, fugitive businessman, Low Taek Jho or Jho Low allegedly contacted Schwartz in June 2013 and requested the woman to design a heart-shaped pink diamond for Rosmah.

Schwartz alleged, Rosmah asked for an 18 karat diamond, however, she only had 22 karat pink diamond and the transaction was struck for the larger stone. Schwartz personally delivered the necklace to Rosmah while the latter was staying aboard a yacht with Jho Low off the coast of Monaco. Records also showed that Rosmah later bought an additional US$1.3 million in jewellery from Schwartz in 2014.

According to the defence counsels, it should be noted that Rosmah never received the pink diamond necklace, and it was never found under Rosmah’s possession despite several raids by the authorities.

According to them, Rosmah also had no knowledge about the invoice presented to the juries during the trial involving Roger Ng.

“Under any circumstances, our client maintained that the production of the invoice did not bring to any conclusive evidence that our client bought the pink diamond necklace,” they said.

Rosmah also stated that the sensationalised issue was a political attempt to slander her and her husband. -MalaysiaGazette
