KUALA LUMPUR – Once again, Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed that the Parliament needs to sit as soon as possible according to the guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOP) of Covid-19.
The Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara, Datuk Indera Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said, His Majesty also expressed that the 14th Parliament Select Committees must continue their meeting sessions to implement the check and balance mechanism. This would ensure governance that is transparent, responsible and with integrity in overcoming issues related to public and community policies, financial affairs and national expenditure.
“During the audience with His Majesty, Seri Paduka Baginda expressed his gratitude on the commitment and readiness of the Parliament to sit as soon as possible.
“It is necessary to explain here that the opinion and recommendations stated are the grounds of His Majesty and the Malay Rulers who acted as the Constitutional Monarchy based on the principles of the Federal Constitution and the sovereignty of the law,” he said in a statement today.
According to Ahmad Fadil, His Majesty granted an audience to the President of Dewan Negara Tan Sri Rais Yatim and the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun at Istana Negara in a session that lasted for an hour at 11.00am.
Deputy Speaker of Dewan Negara Senator Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mohamad and the Deputy Speakers of Dewan Rakyat Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon also attended the meeting.
Ahmad Fadil explained that the meeting was a continuation from the Conference of Malay Rulers that took place on 16 June.
“His Majesty also took the opportunity to urge the people to pray that the country is always protected by Allah SWT and hindered from calamity and that the Covid-19 pandemic can be contained and end immediately,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
