PETALING JAYA – A film producer was charged at the Magistrate Court today for producing ‘Babi’, a short film without getting the license from the authority on 18 November 2020.

Nevertheless, the accused, Toh Han Boon, 35, pleaded not guilty on the charges.

The plea was recorded before Magistrate Muhammad Iskandar Zainol after the prosecution paper was read to him this morning.

According to the case fact, Han Boon was charged for partaking the activity of producing a film entitled ‘Babi’ and displayed the poster of the film without valid license from the National Film Development Corporation Malaysian (FINAS).

He was charged for committing the offence at about 6.00 pm on 18 November last year in Mutiara Damansara.

The charge is framed under Section 22 (a) of the National Film Development Corp (FINAS) Act 1981 (Act 244 Amendment 2013) and is punishable under Section 25(1) of the same Act.

Upon conviction, Han Boon can be fined not more than RM50,000, imprisoned not more than two years or both.

The investigation was conducted by Inspector Jagachandran Murugesen and Deputy Public Prosecutor Zamriah Zarifah Aris led the prosecution.

Muhammad Iskandar set bail at RM5,000 with a surety and fixed 14 October for the submission of documents and mention of the case. –MalaysiaGazette
