KUALA LUMPUR – The police have recorded statements from the driver of the Jalan Kinabalu hit and run case involving a cyclist.

The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said that the driver, however, has been released by the police after recording his statement.

Nevertheless, the police have confiscated his car for further investigation.

“The driver involved in the hit and run has been successfully tracked down by the police after observing the video recording of the incident and contacted him.

“The 22-year-old man then went to the Traffic Police Station at Jalan Tun H S Lee at 4.45pm yesterday to record his statement, he said in a statement.

According to Sarifudin, the police is investigating the case according to Rule 10 Road Traffic Rules 1959 (Rule 10 LN 166/59).

During the 7.15 am incident on Wednesday (8 August), the victim, who is also a staff of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), sustained light injuries due to the crash.

Following that, the 33-year-old victim lodged a police report at the Jalan Tun HS Lee Traffic Police station.

Based on the one minute viral video footage, the victim was cycling from Cheras towards Jalan Kuching.

He was hit by a red car from the back right after the victim arrived at Jalan Kinabalu.

The driver however, continue to speed without stopping at the location. -MalaysiaGazette
