PUTRAJAYA – Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang is ready to be investigated following the media statement issued by six Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (LPPR) members on the investigation of the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The Chairman of LPPR alleged that he had no hidden agenda but was merely carrying out his duty the best that he can.

“I would like to state my readiness to be investigated by anyone or organization, at any time.

“As I emphasised earlier, it is important for the MACC to get the support from the people as its main role is to fight corruption and power abuse without any apprehension,” he said during a news conference today.

Explaining the matter, Abu Zahar confessed that he received a message from the Board Members of LPPR, Datuk Seri Azman Ujang two days after the news conference to clarify the investigation of Azam Baki on 5 January.

According to him, Azman told him that the issue was getting heated.

Several minutes later, he also received the response from another LPPR Board Member, Datuk David Chua Kok Tee on the feedback from Azman, asking for a meeting to discuss about the matter immediately to clarify the actual situation on the issue.

He added, another LPPR Board Member, Tan Sri Ismail Omar also shared the same opinion, requesting for a meeting on the same day.

After listening to them, he agreed to set a closed door meeting at 10.00 am at the MACC Academy Office, Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur.

However, on 8 January, he found that all six board members of LPPR had another meeting between them behind him and they issued the media statement.

“I regret the media statement made by the six members,” he said.

On 5 January, Abu Zahar told a special news conference that the LPPR was satisfied with the explanation given by Azam Baki over his share ownership allegation.

According to him, Azam had no interest in the share ownership as alleged.

He emphasised that the board members have summoned Azam on 24 November to get his explanation on the viral issue which caused negative perceptions on the anti-graft agency.

He said, Azam explained that his brother, Nasir had used his account to purchase the stocks in 2015. -MalaysiaGazette
