KUALA LUMPUR – Senior citizens aged 60 years old and above with comorbidity and high risk may take their second Covid-19 booster dose.

However, Minister of Health, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said, the second booster dose is not compulsory.

He said, they may opt to take the shot after at least four to six months from the date of their first booster dose.

Khairy added, senior citizens without serious diseases but have been infected by Covid-19 may take their second booster dose three months after they fully recover from the disease.

“Those who are healthy may get their second booster dose, but they need to discuss with their medical practitioners first, thus, the decision will depend on the medical practitioners.

“Meanwhile, for individuals aged 60 years old and above and have completed their booster dose but was infected by Covid-19, they are eligible to receive their second booster those 3 months after they fully recover,” he said during a news conference at the Parliament today.

Besides that, he also said that individuals above the age of 12 and has immune system problem may also get their booster dose.

“These individuals may get their booster dose at least 28 days from the date of their second dose,” he said.

Elaborating further, the Health Minister said that the mRNA Comirnaty (Pfizer-BioNTech) will be administered for this purpose.

Meanwhile, he said that the MOH also received the second booster dose request from individuals who wish to travel overseas.

“For example, some countries in Europe do not recognize the Sinovac and Sinopharm as the primer and booster dose,” he added. -MalaysiaGazette
