teacher teaching class early retirement

KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Education (MOE) needs to explain about the concerns of National Union of The Teaching Profession (NUTP) on the trend of early retirement for teachers.

The Deputy President of UMNO, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said, if the projection by NUTP is true, thus, the early retirement or resignation rate among the teachers is very worrying.

In a statement yesterday, the NUTP projected more than 10,000 teachers have opted for early retirement each year since the past few years.

This figure far exceeds the figure issued by MOE on 9 November 2021, where there were only 4,360 applications for optional retirement by the teachers from January 2021.

Therefore, he said that the government needs to intervene in this matter as the experienced teachers retiring early is a huge loss to the nation.

“If it continues, the country will face even more critical education crisis. It will affect the quality and competitiveness of our education system.

“The aspiration to turn Malaysian schools and education quality to be on par with the international standards would definitely be affected,” he said in a statement today.

He confessed, the challenges faced by the teachers during the pandemic season truly tested their emotion and psychology.

Furthermore, they were burdened by clerical work which affected their core duty.

Therefore, the Parliament Special Select Committee for Education must summon the representatives from the MOE to explain about this. Through transparency, a long-term solution could be formulated.

Mohamad said, teachers are important catalyst in developing the nation and country as they have extraordinary influence in shaping the personality and thoughts of the future generation.

Thus, there their welfare must be prioritised and cannot be compromised.

According to him, if many teachers end their career when they are still productive and can still contribute effectively, something must be wrong with the MOE. -MalaysiaGazette
