KUALA LUMPUR – The disappointed opposition Members of Parliament (MP) who were denied from entering the Parliament received a pleasant surprise after the Chairman of Parti Pejuang Tanahair (Pejuang), Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad joined them in a demonstration at Dataran Merdeka this morning.

Dr Mahathir’s arrival was received by the President of PKR, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim while winding up his speech at Dataran Merdeka today.

This is the first time the two leaders were seen together, sharing a stage after the political crisis last year which left a rift between the duo.

In his speech, Dr Mahathir said that this is the first time in Malaysian history where the MPs are not allowed to go to the Parliament.

“We can see the number of police here to guard us. We are not criminals. We do not need the police to watch us like this.

“I, with the opposition party, demand that we have a sitting today to discuss about the Emergency.

“This Muhyiddin government does not allow us to talk at the Parliament and also outside the Parliament,” he said during the demonstration at Dataran Merdeka before marching towards the Parliament building.

In his speech, Dr Mahathir emphasized that the government needs to be in line with the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong under all circumstances.

“I hope that the people understands why we make such stance. Indirectly, the government has no government now when we find that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Prime Minister does not see eye to eye and have no respect. Thus, the government cannot rule the country.

“If a government makes a motion, the motion must get the approval from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“If the Agong rejects it, the Dewan Rakyat must discuss about the rejection. If there is no changes, the Dewan Rakyat can return to the Agong. Only if the Agong does not approve it after two months, it can become a law. However, this has not be brought to the Parliament. It was brought to the Agong and His Majesty did not agree but announcement was made as if it has become a law,” he added.

Anwar said that the assembly by the opposition today was attended by 107 opposition and independent MPs.

All of them were disappointed after the police held a roadblock at Jalan Parliamen and did not allow any MP to enter the Dewan Rakyat.

Dr. Mahathir also alleged that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government cares about their position more than the people.

“They are more focussed on politics than the people. It’s alright if the people dies as long as I (Muhyiddin) am the Prime Minister,” he added. –MalaysiaGazette
