KUALA LUMPUR – The Court of Appeal maintained its decision to deliver the verdict on the appeal for the sentence and conviction of SRC International Sdn Bhd (SRC) against Datuk Seri Najib Razak on 8 December.
Yesterday, the defence team of the former Prime Minister requested to defer the verdict to after 13 December as Najib would still be under quarantine after coming back from Singapore.
In a letter to the Registrar Office of the Court of Appeal, Najib requested for the verdict to be delivered the following week, between 13 and 17 December.
The Appellate Court said in a statement yesterday that the three-judge bench led by Datuk Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil would deliver the verdict on the conviction and 12 years jail sentence and RM210 million in fine imposed on Najib.
Najib is appealing against his sentence and conviction of seven charges of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering in relation to RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
The a three-man Court of Appeal bench that comprises of Abdul Karim, Datuk Has Zanah Mehat and Datuk Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera would decide if they would maintain the High Court’s decision on 27 July 2020, or to release him and quash the sentence delivered by High Court Judge, Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.
