PUTRAJAYA – Today marks the 13th appeal proceeding of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over his conviction on the misappropriation of RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd (SRC International).

Najib arrived at the Palace of Justice at 8.50 am, looking sharp, accompanied by his officers and several supporters while smiling at the media practitioners.

Deputy Public Prosecutor, Datuk Seri V. Sithambaram is scheduled to continue his argument for half an hour, before the defence led by Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah continues his argument.

Sithambaram, said last week during his argument that the attacks by Najib’s defence team in and outside the court against Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali is not appropriate at all.

Mohd Nazlan, was the High Court Judge who heard Najib’s money-laundering and power abuse case and delivered the verdict and sentence after finding him guilty.

Sithambaram said, the defence’s accusation that Mohd Nazlan had erred and was inefficient in delivering the verdict for SRC International’s case last year as very baseless.

Besides that, Sithambaram said that Najib did not lose anything in the SRC International trial as Mohd Nazlan was merely giving the main points after he ordered the Member of Parliament of Pekan to enter defence.

He said, under the provision of the law, the judge need not provide the reasons in his aural verdict after finding the prosecution had successfully established prima facie and ordered the accused to enter his defence.

On 28 July last year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court sentenced Najib to 12 years in prison and RM210 million in fine after he was found guilty of criminal breach of trust, money-laundering and power abuse involving RM42 million belonging to SRC International.

The verdict was delivered by Mohd Nazlan after finding that the defence has failed to establish reasonable doubts.

Najib was found guilty under Section 23 (1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.

The proceeding resumes now with Sithambaram wrapping up his arguments. –MalaysiaGazette
