WASHINGTON – US fighter jets intercepted two aircraft that entered a temporary flight restriction zone around President Donald Trump’s golf club in Bedminster in the state of New Jersey, reported German news agency dpa quoting US media reports.
The North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) confirmed that F-16 fighter jets intercepted the aircraft on Sunday and safely escorted them out of the restricted airspace.
Fox News and the New York Post reported that the aircraft were intercepted near Trump’s golf club, where he spent the weekend.
The US military did not say how many fighter jets were involved or provide further details about the aircraft that violated the restrictions.
Temporary flight restrictions are routinely imposed around locations where US presidents are staying for security reasons.
Violations occur occasionally and often involve smaller aircraft.
NORAD urged pilots to check relevant airspace restrictions before every flight. -BERNAMA-dpa
