KUALA LUMPUR – A nephrologist and medical specialist reprimanded independent Islamic preacher, Ustaz Hanafi for promoting heath products that can allegedly cure three types of diseases.

Dr. Rafidah Abdullah said, the health product promoted by the preacher cannot cure diseases as alleged. On the contrary, the medical specialist said that the product could endanger its users.

“Look at the discussion below the ustaz’s post. Do you know that blood thinners such as warfarin, when added with other herbs – can make our blood overly thin and cause bleeding?

“Bleeding in the guts, brain and can cause death.

“Do not give such advice. I can only pray that the patients would not get bad adverse effects,” said Dr Rafidah.

She also emphasised that it is an offence under The Medicines (Advertisement and Sale) Act 1956 for anyone to mention any diseases in promoting health products.

Dr Rafidah who works in the Putrajaya Hospital also urged the ustaz and religious leaders not to be involved in health issues.

“Just like how I would not touch about religion in my posts, I also hope that the ustaz and other religious leaders would do the same.

“Stay out of health issues and certainly, do no mention the chronic diseases. Please.

“I will continue to voice my professional opinion because this is my expertise,” she said.

Ustaz Hanafi or his real name, Mohamed Hanafiah Abdul Malek said in his social media post that the alleged product has 95 percent efficacy on those who are facing the state health issues.

According to him, those who take that health products also did not suffer any side effects.

In 2017, he was diagnosed with stage four lymphoma cancer and he is on his way to recovery now. -MalaysiaGazette
