SEPANG – Selangor is expected to enter Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (PPN) in August or September if it is able to reach the threshold.

Its Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said, the vaccination process currently moving fast in the state and it hit the record high of 80,000 doses yesterday.

Nevertheless, he said, they also need to consider the number of new Covid-19 positive cases and the capacity the beds in the intensive care unit (ICU) before Selangor can transit into the next phase.

“Our healthcare system is still limited. The cases are still high. Thus, I believe that we may enter Phase 2 PPN in August or September and after that, we can enter Phase 3 very fast.

“Our vaccination process is very fast now and we reached 80,000 per day yesterday.

“According to Khairy Jamaluddin’s plan, 80 percent of the adult population in Selangor can be reached in August. Therefore, it means that we can enter the next phase faster,” he said during a news conference after visiting the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) area in Taman Murni.

Also present was the Sepang District Offier Mohamad Zain A Hamid and the Chairman of Sepang Municipal Council, Datuk Abd. Hamid Hussain.

Meanwhile, when asked about the possibility of EMCO extension in several sub-districts in Selangor, Amirudin said that it would depend on the number of daily cases recorded.

“The bigger issue is that the EMCO is here to save and protect our healthcare system. If the cases are high and the people are allowed to go to work, they have the potential to gather at their workplace and public spaces, thus, more cases will be recorded.

“Therefore, I have explained earlier that we cannot expect the cases to drop to 2,000 or 200 merely a few days after EMCO. There is a cycle.

“That’s why I mentioned, we can only see the effect of EMCO after three weeks,” he added.

On 3 July 2021, the EMCO was implemented on several sub-districts in Selangor and a certain localities in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur for 14 days until 16 July.

The nine districts in Selangor with EMCO are Petaling, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Gombak, Kuala Langat, Klang, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor.

On another development, Amirudin said that the number of positive cases recorded in Selangor yesterday was also contributed by thorough Covid-19 screening at six Targeted EMCO areas.

“The cases increased because we have EMCO here. Imagine, there are 9,000 residents in Mentari Court. We swabbed and there were over 1,000 cases. There are about 2000 cases here (Taman Murni).

“The EMCO is inconvenient. I don’t feel good about it but this is a bitter experience that we need to swallow for now,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
