SHAH ALAM – The Selangor Government is considering to reopen its tourism destination next month, in line with the federal government’s effort to speed up vaccination in the state in July and August.

The Permanent Chairman of Tourism, Environment & Green Technology and Orang Asli Affairs, Hee Loy Sian said that the tourism destinations need to be open in stages to ensure the safety of the people.

“Early assessment found that the best time is in September as the reopening of tourism activities need to be made in stages, after the herd immunity or 80 percent of the vaccination rate is reached,” he said during an interview with Nanyang Siang Pau.

According to Loy Sian, the people needs to live with the virus for the next three to five years.

“Therefore, life must go on to ensure herd immunity is reached besides making sure the strict compliance to standard operating procedures (SOP),” he said.

According to him, it is important to draft a good SOP now so that the tourism activities can be promoted and take place in a controlled environment.

As infections are often implicated with group activities, thus, food and beverages, transport and accommodation activities need to be done while ensuring physical distancing.

Besides that, all service staff must also complete their vaccination. –MalaysiaGazette
