KUALA LUMPUR – The residents in the northern states of Peninsular Malaysia must take heed from the floods in Selangor.

The reminder was made as there is a possibility of floods following the continuous rain warning issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on that area.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob does not want the flood incidents in Selangor to repeat itself as most of the residents were not prepared to face the disaster and it caused the loss of valuables and lives.

“When the authorities issued warnings, perhaps, they did not expect the water to rise that fast.

“When that happened, many were stranded and they had to vacate immediately without having the time to save their valuables and personal identification,” he told said during his visit to the Flood Relief Centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Buntar in Bera, Pahang.

At the same time, the Member of Parliament of Bera also reminded the state governments and local authorities to be prepared in terms of PPS, assistance, assets besides ensuring that the drainage and irrigation system is properly maintained.

MetMalaysia issued the continuous rain warning for the northern states in the Peninsular of Malaysia today.

According to that department, the warning was issued on Perlis, Kedah, Penang and several areas in Perak namely Kerian and Larut, Matang and Selama. – MalaysiaGazette
