WASHINGTON – Vietnamese authorities have arrested an individual on the FBI’s most wanted fraudsters list, the sixth to be apprehended in three months, its Director Kash Patel said on Monday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
“Captured: Another FBI most wanted fraudster. This is the sixth most-wanted fraudster captured since the creation of the new list three months ago – and yet another high-value target captured overseas,” Patel said via the social media platform X.
The suspect, Emylee Thai, had been on the run since 2022 and was arrested for allegedly defrauding the US Medicare health insurance programme of more than US$100 million.
She was detained in Vietnam, where she is believed to have sought refuge since at least 2023, the director said.
“The FBI is actively working with our partners to secure her return to the US,” Patel said, adding that Thai is charged, among other offences, with conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and conspiracy to defraud the US.
In June, the FBI launched its Most Wanted Fraudster list, following the creation of the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud in March. – BERNAMA-SPUTNIK/RIA NOVOSTI
