KUALA LUMPUR – The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed utilisation in the Federal Territory of Putrajaya has reached 100 percent, said the Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said, five states have shown increment in hospital bed utilisation for critical Covid-19 cases namely in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (67%), Selangor (59%), Perlis (55%), Johor (53%) and Kelantan (52%) as of yesterday.

Meanwhile, the non-ICU bed utilisation in Selangor and Putrajaya was the highest in the country with 79% and 72% respectively.

“Six other states showed manageable non-ICU bed utilisation in Kuala Lumpur (64%), Terengganu (60%), Melaka (59%), Perak (57%), Sarawak (55%) and Negeri Sembilan (54%).

“Meanwhile, Covid-19 patients who required respiratory support increased to 195 cases, with the percentage of ventilator utilisation of 22%,” he said in a media statement today.

He also explained that there was a difference between he daily Covid-19 hospital admission cases data compared to the daily newly diagnosed cases in Category 1 until 5.

According to him, the clinical situation of a patient is dynamic. They could deteriorate or improve throughout the Covid-19 infection period.

At the same time, some high-risk Covid-19 cases from Category 1 and 2 had to be admitted into the PKRC and hospital as precautionary measure.

“Yesterday, 1,264 Covid-19 cases were admitted into the hospital with 487 cases or 38.5% under Category 3, 4 and 5, and 777 cases or 61.5% under Category 1 and 2,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
